One of America 's, and really the whole worlds previously Wanted men, Saddam Hussein has had quite an interesting life. There are many Saddam Hussein biography books available in bookstores, which would choreograph the life of one of the most notorious killers of all time in an in-depth analysis. However for a brief fact sheet on the life of Saddam Hussein, this is the right place. A traditional Saddam Hussein biography would begin with the year of his birth: Born on April 28, 1937 , in the town of Al-Awja , Iraq to a family of shepherds. His father supposedly died or went missing 6 months before Saddam's birth. The name Saddam Hussein means, ‘one who confronts'. He was born to Subha Tulfah al-Mussallat, his mother who after a great depression over the death of her 13 year old son, became suicidal in the last months of her pregnancy with Saddam. At the age of 10, Saddam ran away to live with his Uncle.
When Saddam turned 20, he joined the revolutionary Ba'ath party. Many times during his life he was imprisoned, and even sentenced to death. Saddam always managed to slide his way out of trouble. In 1976, Saddam rose to the position of General in the Iraqi army. In 1979, He officially came into power as the President of Iraq, although he began pulling people's strings long before that.
From 1980 to 1988, Hussein was involved in the war with Iran . He disliked the Islamic views and feared anyone who did not concur to his secular views. After the war, relations with Kuwait became strained. In 1990, Saddam concentrated his attentions on Kuwait , and the Gulf War ensued. Over 20 000 Iraqi casualties were reported from this war. This led to tensions worldwide with Iraq , including the United States . This came to a standstill in 2003, when Saddam Hussein was captured by the American authorities in Iraq .
As of now, the Saddam Hussein biography continues. He is the middle of court proceedings to determine his guilt or innocence. I guess the big question is: Will Saddam Hussein escape death yet again? |
