North Korea Firing Nuclear Missiles

On July 5 th of this year (2006) North Korea test fired seven missiles into the Sea of Japan . One of these missiles was a long range missile capable of reaching the west coast of the United States . The long range missile failed miserably by falling into the ocean lest than a minute after launch.

A very embarrassing moment for North Korea 's dictator Kim Jong-il. As embarrassing as this was for North Korea, it was frightening for the rest of the world.

Once again Kim Jong-il has thumbed his nose at the United Nations and its member states. Immediately the U.N. voted to impose sanctions on North Korea , already the most sanctioned country on the planet.

North Korea testing its missiles is troubling but the very real threat of North Korea firing nuclear missiles is very disturbing. North Korea is already dealing with sanctions imposed because of its nuclear program.

The UN and North Korea missiles go back a long way. Sanctions mean absolutely nothing to Kim Jong-il. While his people are starving at an alarming rate, one third of his country's budget is spent on the military.

In a country of 22 million, The Korean's Peoples Army consists of more than one million active personnel. Its military reserves number 4.7 million. North Korea has nuclear weapons. It has an extensive chemical weapon program, a biological weapon program, untold amount of medium to long range missiles and an astronomical amount of conventional weapons.

One of the latest sanctions against North Korea states that the UN won't allow any country to sell weapons of mass destruction, or the technology to make weapons of mass destruction to North Korea.

That's like telling Saudi Arabia , we won't allow any country to sell you sand! Am I missing something here? It appears that when it comes to the UN and North Korea missiles problem, the North Koreans are ahead by a century.

Although most of North Korean's problems have been brought on by its crazy but

extremely dangerous dictator, somehow they feel like they are being picked on by the rest of the world.

Sounds like a severe case of paranoia to me. A very dangerous and unstable situation with a dangerous and unstable leader. It seems like North Korea firing nuclear missiles is just a matter of time.
