Almost four years after George Bush stood on the deck of the aircraft carrier, Abraham Lincoln
and announced to the world mission accomplished, he has finally come up with a plan to actuallyaccomplish the mission. His plan, to increase the number of troops in Iraq . Actually his plan isto increase the number of troops in Iraq by 21,500. There are approximately 130,000 troops in Iraq right now. Most of these new troops in Iraq will be sent to Baghdad .
Sending 21,000+ American troops into a city of more than six million people, most of whom, either hate or at least don't want Americans around, seems to me to be a great way to increase the number dead American troops in Iraq. Just two months after his famous mission accomplished speech, George Bush challenged anyonewho was tempted to attack U.S. forces by saying, “Bring ‘em on .” Apparently the so called insurgents in Iraq has done just that. In the last four years these insurgents have killed more than 3000 American troops in Iraq .
In addition to these deaths there have been 23,000 American troops injured, most of them hurt so badly they could not return to battle. Just looking at these numbers one can't help but notice the similarity here. Let's see, 3000 killed, 23,000 seriously injured. An increase of 21,500. Kind of evens out, doesn't it ?
From my point of view it looks like George Bush is simply replacing the 26,000 + troops in Iraq that have either been killed or injured. This is his new plan to accomplish the mission in Iraq . What's up with that ? Except for the thousands of American families who have loved ones either killed or injured in this unjust war, it appears as though the Americans are back where they started four years ago. In a news conference a couple of weeks ago, white house press secretary, Tony Snow, said,“ we are not losing the war in Iraq . Right now we are not winning but we are not losing.” News flash Tony, if you are not winning a war then you are most definitely losing. If George Bush's solution to winning the war is to replace the number of troops in Iraq that have been killed or injured with fresh bodies, then this war can last for a very long time yet. The parallels with another war the Americans were involved in during the 60's is getting scary. Poll after poll shows the American people have lost faith in their leaders and do not want this war to continue.
Where are your voices ? Please speak up, let your government know you want this war to end, it is wrong ! |
