The Murder of Laci Peterson

Our Views On The News
Few cases have caught the public's attention as have the Laci Peterson murder case. Who could forget? The beautiful, vivacious and 8-month pregnant Laci Peterson, of Modesto , California goes missing on Christmas Eve, 2002. She was only 27 years old. The world held its collective breath that Laci would turn up. The months went by and still no word. Nobody, especially Laci's family, the Rochas could believe that she would disappear of her own free will. In the meantime, Laci's husband Scott Peterson was, by all accounts, not considered a suspect although he was the last person to reportedly see her alive. In April of the following year, the Laci Peterson missing person case turned into the Laci Peterson murder case, as some people discovered the remains of first a fetus, and then Laci on the shores of the same pond that Scott Peterson claims to have been ‘fishing', by himself on the Christmas Eve of Laci's disappearance.

The Laci Peterson autopsy could not determine the time or cause of her death, as the body was too decomposed. The State was relying heavily at this point for some concrete evidence in which to arrest Scott, from the Laci Peterson autopsy. It didn't take long for the strings in Scott's story to unravel anyway. When he was finally arrested, he was found near the Mexican border, with over $15,000 in cash. He had also dyed his hair, and grown a beard. The authorities found a boatload of circumstantial evidence against Scott.

Then everything exploded. A woman named Amber Frye came forward and testified at the Laci Peterson murder trial that she was Scott's mistress, and that he had told her his wife was dead, before Laci ever went missing. Now armed with a motive as well, the jury broke in the Laci Peterson murder trial. After only 7 hours of deliberation, the jury found Scott Peterson guilty of 2 First-degree murders, that of Laci and her unborn son, Conner. He has also been given the death penalty in California , and maybe one day will face the consequences of his actions.
