| There have been many reports that cows destroy ozone layer by emitting toxic gases into the atmosphere that contain ozone-destroying elements such as methane. As a matter of fact, all living things secrete methane into the environment. Gases emitted into the atmosphere by natural causes, such as people and animal gas emissions, do have some impact on the ozone layer, however it is the CFC and toxin emissions from pollutants like factories and vehicles that accelerate ozone depletion and the Greenhouse Effect.
The idea that cows destroy the ozone layer is ludicrous and should be given no more attention than the fact that, eventually, the sun will burn itself out too, when it runs out of gas.
Methane, or CH4, is a chemical compound which, like formaldehyde or propane is a principal component of natural gas. If one molecule of methane is burned in the presence of one molecule of carbon dioxide, and two molecules of water, or H2O, it becomes a very ingenious fuel that is clean- burning and found in abundance.
However, methane is also a harmful greenhouse gas that speeds up global warming. Methane warms the earth 25 times as much as carbon dioxide and it is found in abundance everywhere in the world, including the earth's atmosphere, volcanoes, and the earth's crust.
It is also emitted from most living things that consume, in the form of gas that is released when one “passes gas”. But the cows destroy ozone layer no more than any other life form that emits gas into the environment.
Here's something that will really make you wonder…the United States spent billions of dollars last year on testing out its theory that cows destroy ozone layer with their gas emissions.
Does the government of the United States really have that kind of money to throw around?
What do the tax-payers think of what their money is being spent on? Better yet, is this another cheap ploy by the Bush Administration to focus the public's attention on yet another gimmick to throw attention off what they are doing elsewhere?
Some questions to seriously think about. Clearly, with George W. Bush in charge of the most powerful country in the world, we have more important and noteworthy things to think about than then the ridiculous idea that cows destroy ozone layer. |
